TLDR — Seventeen bamboo installation artworks, including ours, were placed in BSD City Park 2. Created by over 350 Indonesian architecture students, these installations were part of the Urban Intervention Workshop during the 33rd Indonesian Architecture Student Scientific Meeting (TKI-MAI) at Multimedia Nusantara University. The initiative aimed to enhance public spaces with sustainable bamboo structures, showcasing innovative designs in South Tangerang.

More than 350 architecture students from 19 provinces in Indonesia gathered at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) from Monday (7/24) to Friday (7/28) to participate in a workshop themed Urban Intervention, part of the annual convention of Indonesian architecture students: the 33rd Indonesian Architecture Student Scientific Meeting (TKI-MAI).
The workshop participants were divided into 17 groups or teams, each consisting of 11 students from different universities. They received workshops from three speakers who were architects and bamboo artists. They were provided with knowledge about installations, bamboo, and its application in installation artworks.
In this activity, students, accompanied by practitioners from the Bamboo Nusantara Academy, visited and conducted research at City Park 2 BSD, Serpong, South Tangerang. Based on these visits, the architecture students were required to conceptualize and create bamboo installation artworks for interactive spaces.
Over three days, the 17 groups successfully created 17 bamboo installation artworks in various forms, such as swings, walkways, tunnels, park benches, gazebos, and other shapes. These seventeen bamboo artworks were then presented and exhibited to all TKI-MAI 33 Jakarta participants before being placed in City Park 2 BSD.
“The seventeen bamboo installation artworks by Indonesian architecture students will enhance the functionality of City Park 2 BSD, making the park more beneficial for visitors,” said Muqoddas Syuhada, Chairman of the Bamboo Nusantara Academy and Chairman of the Indonesian Architects Association Banten branch, during the TKI-MAI 33 Workshop at UMN on Friday, July 28, 2017.

Adriel Frederick, the Internal Chairman of TKI-MAI 33 UMN, expressed his pride that the UMN Architecture Program could be one of the hosts, sponsors, and organizers of this annual event, even though the UMN Architecture Program is only in its first year.
He hopes that this workshop will have a positive impact on architecture students in Indonesia, especially at UMN, and contribute to the development of the architecture field.
The Indonesian Architecture Student Scientific Meeting, commonly known as TKI-MAI, is the largest event held for architecture students across Indonesia, and it is hosted in a different location each year.
For information, the 33rd TKI-MAI Jakarta was centered at three different campuses: Multimedia Nusantara University, Tarumanagara University, and Borobudur University. This year’s TKI-MAI 33 Jakarta organized a series of activities, such as competitions, community service, seminars, exhibitions, scientific discussions, workshops, studies, and communication forums.
